A New Chapter for The Clydeside: Introducing Our 8 Year Old Small Batch

Eight years in the making, marking a significant moment in the story of The Clydeside Distillery.

We’re delighted to introduce our 8 Year Old Small Batch - the first age statement single malt released by The Clydeside and an exciting milestone as we continue our journey towards establishing a full core range of age statement whiskies.

Distilled in the heart of Glasgow using 100% Scottish barley and water from Loch Katrine, this whisky has been fully matured for eight years in Oloroso sherry casks. The result is a rich and characterful expression that offers an early glimpse of the style and depth we hope will define our future age statement single malts. 

Eight Years in the Making

An age statement single malt takes time. The Clydeside may be a relatively young distillery, but our whisky has been quietly maturing in cask since the first spirit ran from our stills in 2017.

This release is our oldest and most complex whisky to date, giving us an opportunity to share an idea of where we’re heading as our whisky gets older.

As we continue to build our stocks for the future, our 8 Year Old is being released in a limited quantity. With just 350 cases available worldwide, it is a rare opportunity to experience this stage in the evolution of The Clydeside.

Fully Matured in Oloroso Sherry Casks

From the outset, cask maturation has been an important part of our approach to making whisky. For this release, the spirit spent eight full years maturing in Oloroso sherry casks from Antonio Páez Lobato (APL), a family-owned cooperage in Jerez. Each cask is seasoned with Oloroso for 24 months, rather than simply rinsed, bringing greater depth of flavour to the whisky and helping develop layers of rich fruit, sweetness and spice over time.

The result is a whisky with remarkable depth and complexity, balancing rich berry fruits and treacle with brighter citrus and tropical fruit notes.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Berry compote, treacle and leaf tea.

Palate: Cherry sweets, orange and pineapple.

Finish: Rose, cinnamon and almond.

Bottled at 55.5% ABV, at batch strength, the whisky has been bottled with natural colour and without chill filtration, allowing all of the character developed during its eight years in cask to shine through.

The 8 Year Old Small Batch is more than a limited release. It marks an important point in The Clydeside story.

As our whisky continues to mature in our Clydeside warehouses, we’re building towards a future core range of age statement single malts. This release gives whisky enthusiasts the opportunity to experience an early expression of that journey as we look forward to having a future core range of age statement releases.
